Snow Moon 2021
Tonight is the Snow Moon.
Here’s what you have to do.
Put on every winter coat you own
Go outside.
Look up at the stars.
You’ll see the full moon peak at 3:17 AM.
Keep an eye out for “moon halo,” which flares when moonlight reflects off atmospheric ice crystals.
You’ll see the planets of Mercury, Jupiter, and Saturn surface above the eastern horizon just before sunrise.
Then go inside and write me an email.
Describe everything you saw.
And I’ll read it when I wake up, fully rested.
I apologize for missing the Wolf Moon last month.
And I apologize for the next few newsletters, which will be a little lean.
Don’t worry, I’m not suffering a bout of writer’s block—though I will be speaking on that subject on the Gotham Writers’ Inside Writing talk show on March 17th.
(I feel ambivalent about becoming a recognized expert on writer’s block. I feel even more ambivalent about working on St. Patrick’s Day.)
You’ll just have to look elsewhere for your lunar fix, at least for a little while.
The simple truth is, I’ve got a lot going on terrestrially.
And the celestial sphere will have to wait.
It’s not like the Moon is going anywhere.
