Wonderful to know that Van Gogh painted Starry Night while outside. All of these paintings are so beautiful, so reassuring; thank you!

Love this. Currently in New Mexico and when I saw the full moon I knew you weren’t far behind.

Last night's full moon rising above the, yes, snowy hills was so good. Reading this dispatch was also so good! I would like to be David Hockney's friends, so I could receive iPad moon paintings in the mornings. Alas, alas. Thank you, as ever, for the beautiful article.

I loved your selection of art for this dispatch. Moonlit Night is breathtaking. It allows me to enter the vision of the artist.

Last night, here up in New Hampshire, the sky was clear and bright as day with the moon. It felt like Magritte painting almost!

For someone with nothing planned, you came up trumps, mate! Love the work of Bruce Webber. One of my favourite photographers. I would love to see 'Moonlit Night on the Dnieper' for real. Sounds amazing. Magritte’s work always, or mostly, makes me smile. There's a sort of joy in his work, for me.

Thanks for sharing these works of art and your history of them, and your words.

Be well.

Oh, Will! This is SO smart. And so very illuminating. This could be an entire book built of these components.

At least three of those portraits' situations I think I've seen in reality. Thanks for the images.

Some of these were new to me, which is always lovely. I'd love to see that first one in person, in a dimly lit room - it looks amazing on my screen, can only imagine what it looks like in real life! (Assuming of course it's not highly toxic to be near...)
